My neighbor literally has a Capitals flag, a Commanders flag, AND an Arsenal flag all on the same pole outside his house. I think that man is doing it right. Why is this even a competition? We're not choosing a religion here people.
The Commanders haven't won anything meaningful in decades. You want me to make them my PRIMARY team over the Caps, who actually brought home a Cup in 2018? Hard disagree. Wake me up when Washington wins a Super Bowl.
I'll shift my loyalty to the Commanders the moment they show ANY loyalty to this fanbase. Dan Snyder spent two decades treating us like ATMs and the new ownership hasn't exactly set the world on fire yet. The idea that geography should determine who I root for is honestly a little insulting. I grew up watching Ovechkin. That's not going anywhere because a stadium might get built near a toll road.
I think people are missing the real point here. The stadium deal, if it actually goes through — and that's a BIG if given how many times this franchise has fumbled off the field — could genuinely transform northern Virginia's identity as a sports hub. Ashburn specifically stands to benefit economically in ways that go beyond just fandom. So yes, maybe it's time locals started treating the Commanders less like a disappointing uncle and more like a genuine cornerstone of community identity. That said, nobody's telling me to stop loving my Nats.
To everyone defending the Caps and Nats — genuine challenge: when's the last time you actually drove into DC for a game vs. just watching from your couch? Because if the answer is "a while," maybe the real issue is that Ashburn needs its OWN venue, and the Commanders stadium could finally be that. Stop treating this like betrayal and start treating it like an upgrade for the whole community.

ok so genuine question for the people who've lived here longer than me (moved from Chicago two years ago) — does the practice facility actually bring any real energy to the area or is it just like a corporate campus that happens to have football players in it? asking because i drive past it on my way to work and it always seems... quiet?
