Should the Sabres ownership just sell the team already?
The Sabres rebuild has been dragging on longer than most fans can remember — is it time to demand new ownership, or do you still believe the kids are finally going to turn it around?

Add your comment54 years. FIFTY FOUR YEARS without a Stanley Cup. The Pegulas have had this team since 2011 and what do we have to show for it? A new arena that's still being debated and a fanbase that's emotionally exhausted. Sell the team. I love Buffalo more than anything but I am DONE pretending this ownership group has any idea what they're doing.
Fun fact: the Sabres have missed the playoffs for 13 straight seasons. That's literally the longest active drought in the entire NHL. Let that sink in. The rebuild started when Obama was still in his first term. I was in middle school. I have a mortgage now.
^ No. They absolutely did not. They went to the conference finals in 2006 and 2007 and got bounced both times. There has never been a Stanley Cup parade in Buffalo. Ever. Please do not spread misinformation on a topic that is already painful enough.
Born on the West Side, raised on Delaware Ave, been a Sabres fan since the French Connection era. I have watched this franchise break my father's heart and now it's breaking mine. Terry Pegula is a good man who loves this city, I genuinely believe that, but loving a city and knowing how to run a hockey team are two completely different skill sets.
To everyone saying the young core gives them hope — I've heard that EXACT sentence about Reinhart, about Eichel, about Ristolainen, about Rodrigues, about Mittelstadt. This organization has a demonstrated pattern of either mismanaging talent or surrounding it with garbage. The kids aren't the problem. The structure above the kids is the problem. Same structure, same results.
my dad cried when they lost game 7 to Dallas in 1999. i was six. i didnt understand what was happening. now im the one crying and he just pats me on the shoulder like he knew this would happen all along. some traditions i couldve done without honestly
Serious question for the "keep the Pegulas" crowd: what is your actual benchmark? Like what would they have to do or fail to do before YOU personally would say enough is enough? Because I've asked this for three years on this forum and nobody ever gives me a real answer. Just curious.
Counterpoint to everyone demanding a sale: look at what happened to the Coyotes. Be careful what you wish for. New ownership doesn't always mean local ownership, and the last thing Buffalo needs is some private equity group that decides the market is too small and starts floating relocation rumors. The Pegulas keep this team IN Buffalo and that matters.
The real problem everyone is ignoring is that Don Granato is NOT a good coach. He gets outworked tactically every single playoff-push game. Oh wait — we never make the playoffs so I guess we'll never know! Sell or don't sell, get a real bench boss first.
Look I work at a bar on Chippewa and I can tell you firsthand that when the Sabres are winning even a few games in a row this whole city comes ALIVE. People are happier. Tips are better. There is an energy here that most cities would kill for. This fanbase deserves so much better and honestly that makes the losing hurt even more.
Tage Thompson just put up 47 goals last season. FORTY SEVEN. JJ Peterka looks like a legit top-six winger. Bowen Byram was arguably our best defenseman before getting hurt. The core is actually there this time. Anyone calling for a sale right now just doesn't watch the games.
okay but who exactly is buying them and why would that magically fix everything? people act like new ownership is some cheat code. the oilers had new owners and spent a decade being garbage too. this is a hockey problem not just a money problem
I moved here from Columbus two years ago for work and honestly the Sabres games at KeyBank are some of the most fun I've had. Cheap tickets, passionate crowd, great atmosphere. I get why lifelong fans are frustrated but from the outside looking in, this team is closer than people think. Don't blow it up now.
Didn't the Sabres actually win the Cup back in like 2006 or something? Pretty sure I remember a parade. Someone fact-check me.
