Add your commentThe Cubs literally have a ROOFTOP EXPERIENCE where you pay $400 to sit on someone's roof and drink craft beer and watch the game from outside the stadium. The White Sox have a parking lot where guys are grilling brats at 10am and sharing beers with strangers. I am not saying one is better but I am absolutely saying one is better.
Born and raised in Bridgeport. My grandfather worked the steel yards, my dad drove a bus, and I've been a Sox fan my whole life. When Cubs fans look at us it's not about baseball — I've seen the eye rolls when I walk into a bar in Lincoln Park wearing my Yermin jersey. Don't tell me this is just about the game. It never was.
My uncle still talks about going to old Comiskey with his buddies in 1983 during the division win. Says the energy in that park was something Wrigley will never touch. Says Wrigley is a theme park and Comiskey was a ballpark. He's 74 and I don't think anything will ever change his mind and honestly I respect it.
Actually I need to correct something people keep getting wrong — the White Sox have ALWAYS had the bigger payroll historically and more recent championships. The Cubs are the struggling underdog brand. So this idea that Sox fans are somehow resentful of Cub success is just... completely backwards if you look at the actual records. The Sox won in 2005. The Cubs waited 108 YEARS. Who's the sad one again?
lol every october cubs fans act like they invented suffering and every june white sox fans act like 2005 was last Tuesday. Chicago baseball is just two different flavors of delusion and I say that as someone who has sat in the bleachers at BOTH stadiums and gotten sunburned at both. equal opportunity misery. this city deserves it honestly
ok so I moved here from Columbus two years ago and genuinely asked a coworker which team I should root for and she said 'well where do you LIVE' like that was the only logical answer. I live in Logan Square btw so apparently I'm a Cubs fan now?? nobody told me baseball fandom was assigned by geography like a school district lmao
Hard disagree with the whole premise. I grew up on the North Side, Wrigleyville basically my backyard, and I'm a Sox fan. My dad just liked the Sox. It's really that simple sometimes. Not every family decision is a sociological statement.
Genuine question for South Siders in this thread: do you actually hate the Cubs or do you hate the *perception* of Cubs fans? Because those are two very different things and I think conflating them is what keeps this rivalry feeling nastier than it needs to be. I ask as someone who grew up in Hyde Park and genuinely loves both parks.
