I've been a Mets fan since '86 and I have watched this team break my heart in ways that should be illegal. But something feels different this year. The energy at Citi Field is electric in a way I haven't felt since I was a kid sitting in the upper deck at Shea with my dad. I'm not ready to crown anyone, but I'm also not ready to dismiss this. Let us have this moment, Yankees fans. You've had about 40 of them.
This is factually wrong lol. The Yankees have WAY more all-time wins — they've also been around since 1903, almost 60 years longer. The Mets started in 1962. You literally cannot compare those win totals and call it meaningful. This is exactly the kind of confident misinformation that makes this debate exhausting.
Can we all just acknowledge that the Yankees haven't won a World Series since 2009? That's 15 years. If a Mets fan went 15 years without a title everyone would be calling them cursed. Yankees fans just conveniently forget to count the drought and keep pointing at rings from before color television.
My grandfather took me to a Yankees game at the old Stadium in 1998. Derek Jeter hit a double in the seventh, crowd went insane, old man cried. That's what this franchise means to people in this city. No amount of Cohen money buys that history. Respect to the Mets fans but come on. You know the answer to this question.

Hard disagree with this whole premise. The Mets will be relevant for exactly one good season and then ownership will do something classically Mets about it. I've lived in Astoria my whole life. I've seen this movie.
Someone please tell me why we're even debating this in September instead of watching games. Queens people, honest question: how many of your Mets fan friends actually go to more than 2 games a year? Because I ride the 7 train to Citi Field regularly and I want to know who all these loud Flushing fans are because the attendance numbers are NOT always matching the energy online.
okay so i just moved here from chicago eight months ago and i genuinely cannot believe how seriously people take this. like grown adults will not speak to each other over this. my coworker in midtown hasnt talked to the guy across from him since april because of a hat. this city is insane and i love it
FUN FACT for all the Yankees fans commenting: the Mets actually have MORE wins all-time than the Yankees do going back to 1962. So statistically speaking, the Mets are the better franchise. Do your research before you come at us.
