America Argues

Is flying an Eagles or Steelers flag in Saginaw a legitimate neighborly offense?

In deep Cowboys country, some residents proudly display rival team colors year-round and it drives locals absolutely crazy. Is it harmless fun or a genuine act of community disrespect?

The Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl since 1996 and y'all are mad at YOUR NEIGHBORS for flying other teams flags? Maybe direct some of that energy toward Jerry Jones, just a thought.

Born and raised in Saginaw, went to Saginaw High, bled silver and blue my whole life. I don't care what flag you fly, this is America. You wanna put a Steelers flag on your porch? Fine. Just know I'm gonna give you the stink eye every single time I drive past your house. That's MY right. We're square.

My daddy flew a Cowboys flag in front of our house on Saginaw Boulevard for thirty one years without ever taking it down once, not even when they were losing every other Sunday in the 2000s. He passed last spring. I keep the flag up now. So yeah, flags mean something to people around here. I get why it stings even if I won't tell my neighbor to take his Steelers one down.

Okay I'll be the villain here. It IS disrespectful. Not legally, not like call the HOA disrespectful, but culturally? Yes. When you move into a community that has a clear identity, a little social awareness goes a long way. You don't move to Green Bay and plaster Bears stuff everywhere without knowing what you're doing. These people KNOW. That's the whole point.

Genuine question for the people saying this is "community disrespect" — have any of you actually gone next door and talked to these folks? Because I guarantee half of them would love nothing more than a little friendly trash talk on game day. That's not disrespect, that's called being a sports fan. Stop being so precious about it.

Just moved here from Pittsburgh six months ago and my Steelers flag has been up since day one. Neighbors have been perfectly fine about it. One guy even came over and we ended up talking football for two hours. Saginaw people are friendlier than this thread makes them sound, I'll say that much.

my neighbor has had an eagles flag up since we moved in three years ago and honestly i forgot it was even there until my kid asked why the bird looks "sick compared to the Cowboys one." out of the mouths of babes lol

Actually the Cowboys last won in January 1996 for the 1995 season, not 1996 — just want to be accurate here. But also yeah the point stands and it hurts.

I used to live in Saginaw before relocating to Philadelphia and let me tell you, Cowboys fans in North Texas are absolutely the LAST group of people who should be policing passion for your team. I have never in my life seen more fair-weather energy disguised as deep loyalty. At least Eagles fans show up the same way win OR lose.
